Hear His Voice

Bible open on top of a rock

Are we able to hear the Voice of The Almighty for ourselves? No interpreter? Imagine just you and God in a personal and private conversation regarding your life, your family, business, and the impact you’re to make for Him? Is it really possible?

Yes! For the Master himself said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27 (KJV). I’m still amazed by how much Jesus packs into one mere sentence. Every word a clue, every word important. This scripture meant so much to me, as it assured me of several things, firstly that He knows us (wow), and that He does speak and give instructions. Secondly, we can hear Him. Jesus uttered a fact here, short and sweet, “My sheep hear My voice!”

I have found it most helpful to start here. Whether I was hearing Him or not, I needed to start with believing this statement and trusting His Word.  Belief in Him has to override our fears and concerns. I was once listening to an interview on Sid Roth’s,  It’s Supernatural channel, and the gentleman being interviewed  (who had an incredible healing ministry) was asked, “What is the secret to your exceptionally strong faith?” He answered. “It started with my decision to believe the Word of God. I decided to believe it, despite how I was feeling!” I loved that. If God’s Word promises something, then it is so. Nothing can undo it. Even Jesus had this attitude. Remember how often He used the words: “It is written …” Why not decide today, that you will accept His Word, and choose, to come from the premise that you are indeed hearing from the Lord. This belief opens doors for you.

Recently, I was asking, “Why is it that we struggle so to hear you Lord?” This was what followed. “Because My people do not have deep intimacy with Me, they are unable to distinguish My voice from their own ideas, or other voices. They do not know Me. For if they did, they would easily hear Me when I speak. If you seek to hear My voice, and follow Me, then seek true intimacy with Me. Intimacy and hearing are intrinsically linked. When you want to know Me and welcome Me, this triggers My heart, and I rush to your side.” He continued . . .

“Hearing My voice develops from intimacy with Me. When you ask Me what I think about your problems, situations, and ideas, I do answer. But when you throw your problems at Me, and ask that I should fix them and solve them for you, Excuse Me! Where is the focus of your prayers and petitions? On you, or Me? When you make Me the focus, asking Me, for how I see your situation and what My heart is for you in this matter, I will always answer. I am however silent when you want to merely use Me.”

I cried as I wrote the following, “To really love someone with all your heart, mind and soul and they do not return your love, is a terrible feeling. That’s how I feel when I am not loved back, when My people are not interested in asking My opinion. They live lives on their own terms and when they come to be in prayer it’s merely focused on having their needs met. Why should I answer?”

Dear friend, I pray that you and I will ask the Holy Spirit to transform our minds and to give us a new heart. So that we rush to our Lord wanting, desiring, to know His opinion on every aspect of our lives. To be so excited, that we can’t wait to hear His heart on every matter. Our Lord is so interested in every single area of our lives. He wants so much to have us Hear His voice, to lead us, to have us follow Him. He wants to make our paths straight, to help us live abundantly and to succeed in our unique calling and Kingdom Assignments.” … I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 (KJV).
