Have you ever wondered how to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit?
So many of us have relationships with the Father and with our Lord Yeshua, but what about the Holy Spirit?
Personally, having believed that the Holy Spirit was only God’s force, it never occurred to me to consider a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Not until the veil was removed and the Holy Spirit revealed who He was, then and only then, did I start to pay attention to this unique relationship and precious gift.

Let’s talk Fellowship today!
I love the way the Bible so simply, yet profoundly states
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
2 Corinthians 13: 14
The word fellowship was connected uniquely to the Holy Spirit. Interesting!
Before we explore several ways in which we may have, or deepen, our relationship with Holy Spirit, it would be wise if we first understood the Biblical meaning of the word fellowship.
The Greek word for fellowship is κοινωνία, ας, ἡ and has several meanings namely: partnership, participation, contribution, communion, contact, intimacy, sharing in, spiritual fellowship, a fellowship in the spirit.
What a beautiful and rich word fellowship is!
Intimacy, sharing, and partnership, is the essence of what we may enjoy with the Holy Spirit. Incredible!
Have you really taken a moment and meditated upon whom you have access to you? What was really been given to you?
Let’s glance at just a few examples of the Holy Spirits activities to help us recall the immensity of what it means to have the privilege of fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
Let’s begin our journey in Genesis:
The Holy Spirit was the very one involved with God and our Lord Yeshua in creation – He was the very one that “hovered over the waters of the earth” and caused it be when the Word was spoken. (Genesis 1:1)
The Holy Spirit was the pillar of cloud by day and the fire by night – for an entire 40 years. The cloud covered the Israelite nation by day, leading and keeping them safe from the desert heat. Imagine a cloud so large that it covered the entire nation of some 6 million Israelites.
The Pillar of fire by night giving light, heat, and comfort during the cold desert nights. (Exodus 14)
The Holy Spirit came upon Bezalei and Oholiab – giving them great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts – making them master craftsman’s so that they were able to build the beautiful Ark of The Covenant. (Exodus 31: 1-6)
The Holy Spirit took 70 men and created leaders that would assist Moses (Numbers 11: 16-30) and transferred some of the authority of Moses onto Joshua giving him leadership abilities, and boldness (Numbers 27: 18,19)
The Holy Spirit came upon Samson and gave him supernatural physical strength (Judges 13 – 16)
The List continues right through the Old Testament. We find example after example of the power of the Holy Spirit. Then, as we open the New Testament, we discover something so extraordinary that it leaves us breathless.

The Holy Spirit takes Divinity – an infinite, limitless God – and miraculously creates our Lord Yeshua. He takes all that which is God, and places it in a form of a human baby. Imagine for a moment, the enormity of power and genius to be able to create such a marvellous miracle. (Luke 1: 35)
Thereafter the Holy Spirit anoints and blesses Yeshua’s Ministry, and is the power behind every healing, miracle, sign, and wonder that took place during our Lord Yeshua’s earthly walk.
But the miracles do not end – The Holy Spirit raises our Lord Jesus from death. Resurrection Power!
And as if that is not enough – the Holy Spirit for the first time in history – no longer rests upon a handful of people – but glory upon glory, and wonder upon wonder . . . He comes to live within us.
“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
Romans 8: 11 (NKJV)
Beloved we have the Holy Spirit within us, given to us as gift the moment we repent and accept Yeshua as our Saviour, Lord and King.
BUT!
Do we really comprehend the enormity of the gifts we have been given? The gifts of Salvation and the Holy Spirit. Do we appreciate and thank our Lord Yeshua and our Father, for their outrageous love and generosity towards us?
Beloved, fellowship with the Holy Spirit has been extended to each of us.
What will you do with this precious gift?
Wouldn’t you want fellowship with the Holy Spirt? Certainly!
How then can we cultivate a deep fellowship with the Holy Spirit? Firstly, we start by laying a firm foundation in our relationship with Him, just as we would with a loved one.
Our attitude is one of gratitude and a deep thankfulness for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Our eyes gaze upon Him with love. We recognize how valuable and precious He is to us. We treat Him with the respect, honour, and dignity.
In this way we start to lay a firm foundation for deep fellowship with Him.
In time it becomes such a beautiful relationship where we can share, enjoy communion, have intimacy, and enjoy the immense privilege of co-partnering with the Him to advance God’s Kingdom on earth. Right here, right now.
Next, we get to know Him.
Think for a moment – How do you behave when you love someone very much? You are naturally interested in their thoughts, dreams, goals, and feelings. You pay close attention to what they like and dislike . . . and you spend as much quality time together as possible. You work, play, and do life together. You miss them immensely when they are not around etc.,

There is no difference when it comes to our relationship with The Holy Spirit.
We learn what brings Him joy and what grieves Him. The more attentive we are, the more He opens to us. The more time we spend with Him the better we come to know Him. Remember He is a gentleman and will never force His way into your life or presence. He waits patiently and longingly to spend time with you.
The Holy Spirit will then start to teach you, guide you, lead you, bless you, anoint you. He will convict you too, but always in love, and yes as promised, He will comfort you.
#HolySpiritSpeaks
The Holy Spirit wants you to know that He will often teach you by his presence what he likes, and by his absence by what he does not like. Yet he never leaves you. (John 14: 16)
The Holy Spirit asks that you involve Him in ALL that you do. Nothing is too small or mundane for Him. He is extremely interested in every aspect of your life. Invite Him into your home, life, and heart. Embrace all that He is and wants to do for you, and through you.
Trust Him. No relationship can flourish without trust. Trust Him! Let Him lead you. Too often we are leading, or at least attempting to, lead the Holy Spirit. You cannot. He is not here to be led by you. This is highly disrespectful behaviour and shows lack of godly fear and reverence.
Love and appreciate Him. He deserves our love, our respect, our appreciation, our attention, and our time.
Lastly, obey Him. When He gives you an instruction, do it! Do it immediately. Much lies in the balance. Many of His instructions won’t make any immediate sense to you. So, trust and faith, are going to be vital. When you look back, you’ll see His sheer genius in your life, and in the lives of those around you.
In Summary:
The gift of fellowship with the Holy Spirit is an honour and privilege. It cannot be bought. It is not given to all. (John 14: 15-17)
The Holy Spirit was given to us Believers, so that we might be victorious. “He removes the veil and makes us more and more like our Lord as we are changed into his glorious image.” (2 Corinthians 3: 16-18)
The Holy Spirit also reveals and partners with us in our Calling and our unique Kingdom Assignments.
I pray the few pointers above have helped you and have taken away the mystery of how to have a wonderful, beautiful, deep, fellowship with The Holy Spirit.
Remember the Father loves us. Our Lord Yeshua loves us. The Holy Spirit loves us. The magnitude of their love remains beyond our mere human understanding, and we echo the words of King David when he said:
“When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place—what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?”
Psalms 8: 3,4 (NLT)
May you be blessed in your fellowship with the precious, beautiful, and immensely powerful Holy Spirit.
