Your understanding of the Holy Spirit will determine how successful your walk as a Believer will be. It will determine whether you are in a state of fear, overwhelm, and dismay, or whether you face life’s increasing challenges from a place of victory, rest, and grace.
We serve such a wonderful God. Gracious, kind, loving, and looking out for us 24/7. He has given us the Holy Spirit – why? Well there are several reasons, but let’s first be reminded of these words of Paul.
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6: 12
Let us not for a minute be fooled that we have the wisdom and capacity in our own strength to fight this fight. We cannot fight these forces with our natural, earthly, thinking and ways. We all know this don’t we?
Yet, in the busyness of our lives, how often do we lose sight of this? How often do we address our problems and challenges with our own thinking instead? How often do we struggle with truly testing situations, only to realize months later that we never addressed them spiritually?
How often do you find yourself stressed, overwhelmed, and not knowing what to do? Beloved, it doesn’t have to be this way.
One of the reasons we were given the Holy Spirit is so that we may be victorious in all things, in order that our lives may showcase the awe and wonder of our Lord Yeshua.
“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”
I John 4:4 (NLT)
For the sake of the name of our Lord Yeshua it’s crucial that you and I firstly know who the Holy Spirit is and secondly that we have a deep and intimate fellowship with Him. He is our differentiation. (John 14: 17)
BUT false teachings have crept in. These teachings are one of the key reasons we as modern-day Believers do not see the full manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives, families, and nations.
Let’s set aside our personal opinions and turn to God’s thoughts on who The Holy Spirit is.
Read with me Matthew 28: 19 (NLT)
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,”
In this verse we can see that Jesus places equal importance on the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Now hold that thought as we read and compare two verses.
Isaiah 6: 8-10 with Acts 28: 25-27.
Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.” And he said, “Yes, go, and say to this people, ‘Listen carefully, but do not understand. Watch closely, but learn nothing.’ Harden the hearts of these people. Plug their ears and shut their eyes. That way, they will not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their hearts and turn to me for healing.”
Isaiah 6: 8-10 (NLT)
And
“And after they had argued back and forth among themselves, they left with this final word from Paul: “The Holy Spirit was right when he said to your ancestors through Isaiah the prophet, ‘Go and say to this people: When you hear what I say, you will not understand. When you see what I do, you will not comprehend. or the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes— so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.”
Acts 28: 25-27 (NLT)
Who does Isaiah say spoke in this instance? Yet, who does Luke in Acts say spoke? We know there is no contradiction in the Bible – so based on these two verses who then is the Holy Spirit?
Now we can’t state our case and reasoning on just two verses in the Bible, can we? Whatever we believe must agree with the entire Word of God, not so?
So, let’s go a little further and consider five verses before we wrap up for today.
As you read ask the Holy Spirit to guide you, instruct you, and reveal the truth to you. For He certainly will!
The Holy Spirit is All Knowing (Omniscience a characteristic of God) I Corinthians 2: 10
The Holy Spirit had No Beginning (A characteristic of God) Genesis 1: 1 & 2
The Holy Spirit is the Power of God (Omnipotent a characteristic of God) Luke 1: 35a
The Holy Spirit is Everywhere (Omnipresent a characteristic of God) Psalm 139: 7
Based on just these scriptures, who then is the Holy Spirit?
In Summary:
Beloved, as you study God’s Word and rely on the Holy Spirit to teach you, He will. He will bring truth and revelation to you. He will reveal himself.
What greater gift is there than to be taught by the Holy Spirit Himself? Why go to others, when we can go directly to Him? Who better than the Holy Spirit to teach us the truth about Himself?
2 Corinthians 13: 14 wraps up so beautiful who the Holy Spirit is. “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
Who is the Holy Spirit? He is distinct from the Father, and the Son, and yet is equally Divine.
Call to Action:
You may be new in your walk with Lord Yeshua, or you may need to adjust your beliefs regarding the Holy Spirit. Be patient with yourself. Take the necessary time to pray and mediate as you read God’s Word. Remember our loving Father rewards those who earnestly seek Him (Hebrews 11: 6), and those who have a keen desire to worship him in “Spirit and truth.”
(John 4: 24)
Prayer Points
1) Father, we thank you for your great love and mercy towards us. Teach us your laws and write them on our hearts and minds.
2) Lord Jesus, we are so grateful for the precious gift of The Holy Spirit that you have sent to us – we thank you for your great love and faithfulness.
3) Holy Spirt, we want to know you, we welcome you and invite you into our hearts and into every facet of our lives. Please come and teach us the truth – that our lives may bring Glory to God. Help us to be ready for the greatest outpouring of you the world has ever seen. Thank you.
All glory, praise, and honour to you Yahweh.
